Moderator Functions
Moderators have the following responsibilities/functions:
Close Thread :
Prevents further replies to a topic or thread. This is done if the thread is a duplicate, if there is nothing constructive to be said on the current subject, or if a thread has been moved to another forum. As an example, threads that are trolling for people to respond will most likely be closed.
Move Thread :
Moves a thread to another forum more suitable for the current discussion. This may happen in the middle of a thread if the discussion has ventured off-topic.
Delete Thread :
Done in the most extreme case, this function completely removes the thread or post from the message board.
General Guidelines for Moderating
Moderators have their own guidelines too, in addition to the rules above:
Closure or deletion of threads not agreed upon :
Rather than censoring a post that a moderator doesn’t agree with, we ask that they reply with their own constructive counter-argument/criticism.
Deletion of threads :
Moderators shall use close instead of deleting a thread. Threads or replies should only be deleted if it blatantly goes against the posting guidelines.
Post a notice when moving threads :
If a moderator feels that a thread belongs in another forum, the moderator must post a notice before it is moved as a courtesy to others.
Visit the discussion forums/message boards as frequently as possible.
Moderators shall review all the new topics posted as frequently as possible in the discussion forums that they have been assigned to moderate.
Revisions
We reserve the right to amend or change the code of conduct at any time and encourage you to periodically review these guidelines to ensure you are in compliance.
Acceptance of Guidelines
By using the University Network Discussion Forums/Message Boards, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Code of Conduct Agreement and any modifications made to it.
